I tire of Christian mommy self-help books. I've been introduced to quite a few through the M.O.M.S. group at our church, Facebook moms' groups and recommendations from friends. I've read and enjoyed a few, and I've enjoyed the conversation that a few a them spurred in my groups. But I tire of their step-by-step messages of how to fix this and do that better. I tire of their subtle guilt-inducing yet pandering and condescendingly sugary message, as if I am a tender thing to be coddled while a list of my failings is laid before me. I know they mean well, and some of them even contain the truth...somewhere. While I reject their trite offerings of an easy fix, I am ever aware that this mothering thing I'm doing is hard, that I'm failing at it in significant ways, and that there must be hope for doing it right, loving my little ones well, growing in grace.This is not one of those books. I've seen reviewers call this book honest, practical, biblical, and helpful, and it is all of those things. It is divided into 31 topics and can function as a month-long devotional study. The chapters are short and contain many scripture references as well as practical advice. It can also be read straight-through (as I did). I have no doubt that every parent could find wisdom here applicable to her situation no matter the types of trials her family faces. But this is not why I love this book, have found it infinitely valuable on first reading, and will return to it again and again. What Amber and Wendy have done for parents is beautiful and far beyond self-help or practical advice. You will not find in this book a message of sticky-sweet guilt accompanied by a list of things to do, quotes to pin on your mirror, and charts to make everything better. What you will find is the gospel, sometimes spoken in brutal honesty, but also in tender grace and humility. See, the thing that tires me about all of those other books is that I know, to the core of my being, that I cannot just set my mind to be a good mom and make it all come out roses. I am weak, and I am a sinner, and I fail. I can memorize your list of alliterated correct responses to my triggers and somehow call that to mind when it seems like all the world is crumbling around me, but that won't save me, change me, or grow gentleness in me. That is the point of the gospel, and that is on glorious display in this book. Whether you recognize a struggle with anger in your parenting or not, this book is an excellent resource. I don't know that I have ever read a better display of sanctification in progress. This is how it works. This is how God works- through prayerful repentance, humility, and the power of His Word. I started reading thinking I would pick out a few triggers that apply to me and breeze through the rest of it, but it turned out that every chapter arrested me. These are not easy or flippant answers; no cheerleading; this is truth and I think I can breathe again.I received a free copy of this book.

I really needed the advice in this book. I have 3 small children and my nerves were wearing thin. Each chapter (small at around 4 pages each) detailed a different child or parent behavior that can cause an angry mommy (or daddy) reaction and then broke that behavior down. It would suggest an alternative perspective, a solution, a Bible verse, and a prayer. I read one chapter a day, which made finishing the book and retaining it's information very manageable. I found the advice and perspective refreshing and helpful (no "just pray about it"s). The chapter titles (aka behaviors) were ON POINT to what we face as parents. I have recommended this book to ALL of my mommy friends. I sing it's praises! (AND more importantly, sing the praises of the one it writes about: Jesus!)

It surprised me and caught me totally off guard the first time I got angry at my toddler. He was my second born, and my first born was at an age where was certainly ascerting his own will. I had amanaged to be a composed and kind mother so far and I thought that it would be possible to do it all the time. I was so wrong! I then found the No More Angry MOB group on FB. That group, and the founders were a God-send. I discovered that I had several triggers and learning to identify them helped me be better prepared to respond to them and my littles.I was part of this group when triggers was a daily question followed up by advice and comments and it blessed me so I was so excited and thankful when Wendy and Amber announce Triggers would become a book.I love the way the book is organized, the way it begins with a personal story followed by a biblical and practical approach to a particular trigger and a prayer at the end. It is not a "How-to-step-by-step" book, it will not solve all your problems and t will not change you immediately into a happy mom who always respond with a cheery tone every time. Rather, this book will challenge you to look deep within, to address your own heart, to discover and identify and name your triggers, it will point you to Scripture, it will encourage you and help you pave the way to change your reactions into a proactive approach. It will provide you with helpful bible verses that you can memorize or put on your kitchen and go to them when you're facing a situation with your people. If God has put in your heart a desire to be a mom who speaks truth seasoned with LOVE and GRACE and GENTLENESS, this is a very practical book for you. Give it a chance!

I found this book at a time when i so desperately needed it. And knowing that i am not alone in my triggers gives me immense hope that i to with Gods help and these prayers can overcome them. I was struggling with a lot of anger and bitterness after becoming a single mom. I knew something had to change. That something was ME! 31 days to a new outlook on this parenting gig and even just after the first week I could see a new me and a new way of life at home. Bring us into yours, and make us known” he isn’t just speaking off the cuff.This man’s thought patterns don’t even come close to resembling the rest of us! And I love that about him! In this short (very short) story we are introduced to “Booger” Loidl and his boyfriend Josh Willbrie. Booger has been an outcast all through high school, but that has changed in his senior year because he is now dating Josh, a star athlete.Something strange is happening in their school and their town. People are turning up dead, with their hearts ripped out and missing. Some of them had an issue with Booger and his family, but who is killing them?I totally didn’t see the end coming in this story. It didn’t go where I thought it would. I recommend it for a short very dark read. This book is not very good, IF one has read Build Your Own Electric VehicleThis book takes the same information and applies it to the motorcycle. However, whole chapters from the old book are essentially copy pasted into this one, including typos. Furthermore, the information I would have wanted, like plans for the motorcycle, are totally absent.What a disappointment!I do recommend "Build Your Own Electric Vehicle." It is a good book, although poorly edited. This volume on the other hand gives us absolutely no new information and is essentially the same book, applied to motorcycles.Definitely not worth the purchase price in my opinion.

Good seller, but the book is heavy on theory and short on practical examples you can use. You can take the equations and theory and come up with horsepower, amperage, etc., but it would have been better if examples and tables showed something like: to move a 1,000 lb (motorcycle and load) at 80 MPH with a 2 hr range, you need a **HP AC motor using **AMPS/**VOLTS, and * batteries of **volt/**amps. Use a xyz **HP motor model 123 or equivalent, combined with 6 TUV brand batteries model 456.

Kind of a waste. I assumed falsely from the page count and some of the more technically oriented visited brains that i found a lot of useful information. I was dead wrong. More than half this book is political soapboxing! I bought the book, I'm into the idea. I don't need convincing. What a waste! The wrong way to draw people into a new concept!!!! My advice: keep looking for a more informative book.

This book is a 2009 edition,it has exactly the same EV info,as a 20 year old book I already own,Except not as good.Full of history,good and bad points,A huge section on saving the planet,Also huge section on each part,ie history,how,and why it works,also make your own descission what to buy ?.Promises of a fast or long range or all round bike,Answer work it out your self ?.The build section,or what I did as a lad,small blurry,black and white pictures,less than 10 pages,of an 800lbs bike,that does'nt go very far or mildly fast, Disappointed,I expected the latest info,and a large part of the book to be the build,of a resent project,Not some old gezzers memoirs, I really do not care that sir Issac,got hit on the head,by an apple,I do not need to no the inner workings,history of each and every part,I want a recent build,with recent parts,for an all round bike,ie 65 mph longest range I can get,with the lightest bike possible.

I found the book informative, but somewhat boring, as there weren't as many illustrations (pictures) as I expected. Too much reading. Time consuming.

So far I've tried the Hazelnut Dacquoise Cake, Coffee Genoise, and the Summertime Strawberry Cake. Mr. Mesnier layers recipe over recipe, which has actually enabled me to be more versatile. The hazelnut meringue cake layers can be made in smaller sizes for the best tasting cookies you've ever eaten, and you can stuff them with the sinfully delicious freezable chocolate mousse (the best I've ever had) and serve as "ice cream" sandwiches. The pastry cream for the Strawberry cake (without Grand Marnier)is perfect for eclair filling. Great instruction on how to make ganache and how to temper chocolate. I do have two suggestions for any who attempt many of the cakes in this book- there is A LOT of folding of ingredients. Do yourself a favor and buy a large folding spatula, and! try freezing your egg whites the day before and defrosting them to room temperature when ready to make your cake. A proper spatula and this nifty freezing trick will keep your batters or meringues from deflating. And I'm pretty sure that you'll want to have use of a stand mixer, bc some of these (cake) recipes will not be easy w/o it. Mr. Mesnier gives you a list of supplies at the beginning of the book, too. Everything I've made from this book has been exceptional.Update: I thought I'd note for the vanilla custard sauce that goes into the hazelnut dacquoise cake- Messnier says that egg must be cooked up to 160 degrees to reach the safe zone, but I have found that in order for this sauce to thicken, it must reach about 180 degrees. Also, for the Summertime Strawberry Cake- do not try and fold the flour mix into the egg mixture while it's in the stand mixer bowl AND the flour should be added slowly (I sift small amounts at a time) and fold. Kind of tricky :)

I am a good cook but I am not a good baker. I learned about baking technique in this book and I appreciated how Mr. Mesnier took the time to explain why he chose which cake for a particular occasion. He also describes a cake and progresses through three versions of a similar recipe from simple to spectacular so you can vary it as your expertise grows. Lovely addition to my baking library. I have not used any recipes in this book but I plan too as he did not list too many recipes with obscure ingredients or complicated recipes. Many of these cakes seem possible for the novice baker. Also, as a White House Buff I appreciated the narrative of Roland Mesnier.

What good is Beautiful Cakes without the pictures? I cannot believe you would leave out what for me is the most important part.

I am a pretty good baker, but had never thought I could tackle more advanced techniques such as genoise with soaking syrups and different kinds of meringues. This book took the fear out of it, and with the tips and superb step-by-step directions, I was quite successful my first tries! One of the best things about this book is the freedom to take the basics and add your own twist, just as Chef Mesnier has demonstrated by starting with the same cake recipes but dressed up or down to fit the occasion. There are also other types of pastry (i.e., brioche "peaches") that are examined in this book as well as just cakes.

One week, I happened to notice that my skin looked particularly good. I had been eating more than the usual amount of fish that week. When discussing this with a friend, she suggested that I read Dr. Perricone's book. Indeed, his book does recommend a fish diet, as well as other aspects of a diet that will be good for your skin. I do not do everything that the book suggests, but I find that following the diet suggestions has resulted in smooth better-looking skin.

Excellent coverage of an important topic, namely the physiology of aging. Discusses free radicals and their role in cell damage as well as the importance of anti-oxidant intake to combat them. I read the book many years ago and recently repurchased it for a friend involved in skin care.

I appreciate the clear explanations about the importance of vitamins and certain supplements. I am also learning about important ingredients that should be in the body creams and moisturizers that I use that will not only rejuvenate my skin outwardly but make it healthier from underneath, where it really counts.

I haven't finished reading the book yet but so far the suggestions Perriicone gives make sense. I used to eat Macrobiotic for 2 years and I was a lot more healthy than I am today (got married and hubby is a fast food junkie lol). The bad side is that I lost around 20 pounds (even though I was already skinny) all of a sudden and I ended up with smile lines ..and I'm in my 20s -_-So now I'm looking for a cure for smile lines. I bought the Dermae Firming DMAE moisturizer that Perriicone suggests in the book but I had an awful experience (my skin was sagging the next day instead of being firmer!). Who knows maybe it's just my type of skin that had that reaction. Hopefully by the time I reach the end of the book, Perricone mentions other facial creams that might help me. If anyone has had good results with firming skin lotions please let me know! It would be greatly appreciated!

PBS ran a NV Perricone speaing to Yale special, and it captured my attention because he was saying the reason we are tired all the time (and I had been having a lot of trouble with this recently) is diet/inflammation. My ears perked right up and, like the hostess who interviewed him at the breaks, I tried his 3-day diet and found such a tremendous difference in my energy level I had to have the book to get more. For the basic information, including the 3-day diet and overall eating plan, you can visit his web site (do a search for N V Perricone or The Wrinkle Cure). The book is good to have as a reference. In real-life, he is pretty nearly the lone source for much of what he recommends, and his prices are high, but it's definitely a boon to tired boomers!

If you are considering plastic surgery, you need to get this book first. WHY? Well, for one thing, the price is a bargain compared to surgery, even when you throw in the often costly cosmetic and vitamins the author recommends. And if, like me, you see a NOTICABLE difference in your skin, you may realize that plastic surgery can be put off for awhile...maybe even forever. This author has the credentials to back up everything he says and a list of celebrity clients with glowing skin that bear witness to his results. Although I was initially skeptical, I can say that finally, finally, I found something that gets results. The suggestions listed here work - and even better, they work even if you don't follow EVERY single step. Drink more water, take the vitamins, use the products and you'll see a difference. Do more and I assume the results will be better. But even if you don't see a remarkable difference in your skin (although I think you will) in a few days or, at most, a few weeks...and decide you still want plastic surgery, you should still have this book. Why? Because you will be going into the operation with the BEST skin of your life and be prepared to have the BEST results. So,either way, this book is a must-have.

A lot of info but the basic is telling you to eat healthy and avoid junk food !!

This is a great book. It is easy to read, very informative, and the "cures" (at least the ones that I've tried) actually work. It contains information about the strengths and weakenesses of various types of skin, and how antioxidants can help. The author also gives the names of some skin care products that include antioxiodants. Okay, so he also recommends his own products in that list. I'm not offended by the self promotion. However, I did visit the author's web site and found the prices for his products to be very high. Later, I surfed the web, found a few web sites about making your own face creams and lotions, and tried adding the antioxidants to these concoctions. I experienced visible improvement of my skin after only a few days. My experience with my home made antioxidant face cream is consistent with the results the author describes in his book. So, from this perspective I say the theory behind the book is sound, and I highly recommend the book to others.
