I recommend the book. Pivot, the way Adam uses the word, stands for the seemingly small changes in one's both thinking and behavior, that lead to a massive change in one's life path and level of contribution and fulfillment.I find Adam to be an amazing teacher. Almost every major contributor in the industry of personal and professional development nowadays has evolved to recommend living with gratitude and appreciation for one's life, the power of creating a clear, definite vision, and putting it into action by living it daily - in the form of small but impactful rituals (daily behaviors, performed as a routine, without paralysis-analysis), as the definite path to creating one's foundation for an "overnight" success, as well as living a fulfilled life.Pivot is full of anecdotes and tips on how to design, execute, and enjoy a life of contribution, service, meaning, and joy, many of which come from Adam's career in the personal and business development company he leads, "New Peaks".The book is split into two parts - the "mindset" first part, called "Clarity: Changing Your Pivot Beliefs", which goes over the importance of creating or finding within one's life direction, and the second part, "Momentum: Creating Your Pivotal Behaviors", giving the steps to be taken to bring the vision into reality.Adam is a big believer in working on both the inner and the outer parts of one's life. One of the motos, widely taught by New Peaks, is "The roots create the fruits" (if you don't like your results (the fruits) - don't try to change them, but plant new trees (vison and beliefs) instead).The book ends with a 21-day plan for the reader, which includes further actions, meant to take one on to another journey, by finding groups of like-minded people to grow with, including an invitation for New Peaks' events, which I have attended and enjoyed greatly - they are something else, very intense and nontraditional, definitely worth checking out in my opinion! The first event, usually three full days, could be in many cases complimentary, and the advanced follow-ups are paid for - you can choose single events or a "package" deal, should you decide to continue your journey with them...My life has been massively improved by pivoting consistently every-so-often, in steps-like fashion, I just wan't calling it that...P.S.Disclosure: Even though New Peaks has an amazing Affiliate program, which I am aware of, I am writing this without any benefits (not that there is anything wrong with being an affiliate), other than the fact that I love their teaching, including Adam's vision and way of leading the New Peaks seminars. All I mean is, I have have no conflict of interest in writing this. I am just a happy fan of Adam's.
While reading Adam Markel's new book, " Pivot ", I was also tuning into the NBA Finals religiously. Very early in the book Adam explains the book's name of " Pivot " with an analogy to the pivot move in basketball. As I watched Steph Curry and Lebron pivot as well as anyone in the history of basketball, I read furiously through the book. Without giving away too much of the content, " Pivot " is an entertaining business book that teaches how to change direction and by doing so, change one's life. Filled with not only fine examples of real-life people who have pivoted in their lives to achieve great things, " Pivot " teaches a real road map that empowers the reader to make changes immediately and for the long haul. I wasn't familiar with Adam Markel before this book, but his story resonated with me personally and the mistakes and changes he writes about in his personal life definitely helped me avoid some of the same pitfalls. Thanks for helping to change my life!
I read these types of books often enough to see if there is anything new to learn. I really liked his perspective. Not cutesy, not generalized, actual useful information. Although it started out strong, it kind of wimped out toward the end in summarizing and I didn't care for the overuse of the word pivot. But I bought and gave a copy to my son as it's definitely worth reading, and I think a person just starting out would gain a lot of benefit from the ideas presented.
This book changed my life. It was the catalyst for me to leave the government after 8 years and buy a franchise. I'll soon be doing what I love instead meeting about PowerPoints for 2-3 years in the illusion of progress.
