This was awesome! It got better and better as you went on. Excitement, suspense and surprises all the way. I love the storyline and that the friendship was more than the romance. It showed what true friends are all about. Aria is a demon hunter and she decides that while she is in this town to kill the demon or demons, she is going to finish school and graduate. First day, she makes friends with Maddie and it feels like they belong together. I remember that feeling with my two best friends in high school. We had that connection and we all felt it. As Maddie and Aria get to know each other, Aria discovers that Maddie is just like her, but she doesn’t know it. To have a friend is out of the ordinary for Aria, but to find someone just like her is extremely rare. Then Ben gets into the picture and he is a half bread and he doesn’t know it. The story gets good as the truth comes out all over the place. There are things that will surprise you and then there are things that will make more sense of the story. All in all, Sherry Ficklin takes you on a fun teenage trip with teen love, teen adventures and best of all, teen fighting a demon.

If Buffy and Supernatural ever merge, I think Demons Lie would be their rebellious teenage love child.No one is more surprised than I am at how much I enjoyed this book. I was skeptical at the beginning because, let’s face it, Supernatural Young Adult books are a dime a dozen and making one stand out is a difficult task. I think Sherry D. Ficklin managed this by creating characters that are not only relatable but also incredibly likeable. With a quick witted and sarcastic demon hunter witch, a loyal-to-the-end best friend and a super adorable half demon how can you really go wrong?I found that the book started out very rushed and was initially concerned that the whole thing would be riding this incredibly high speed wave but the more into the story we get, the more the pace eases up until we get this perfect flow for the remainder of the book.Something that really stood out to me is that the author seemed to focus a lot more on character building and relationships than the actual killing of demons, which I think is pretty smart for the first in a series. I mean, there was still some action and a lot of witchy/demon things going on, but building the friendships of these main characters would be an integral part to the series and I feel like not enough authors put enough effort into building that up right off the hop so big round of applause for that!I honestly absolutely loved this book. Witches, demons, revenge, high school….what more could you really ask for? Demons Lie was the perfect palette cleanser for me and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something that’s comfortably familiar but still incredibly different. It is such a quick read and I will be looking forward to the next installment in the series.I was provided a copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher to read and provide my honest opinion.

This book was a fun blend of YA, paranormal, and action/adventure that I couldn't put down! As the start to a series it gives you just enough to have you hooked, without feeling cliffhanger-y.Aria is a tough as nails teenage girl who spends her days searching for magical doorways to close and hunting demons who prey on the innocent. A small town is not her usual haunt, but it seems like this particular location is a hot spot for demon activity. As if fated, she ends up meeting another gifted person, just like her, who can aid in the fight against darkness (and high school finals). To make matters a bit tougher, though, Aria's #1 suspect for being a demon hiding in plain sight is a boy who also happens to make her get all nervous and fluttery.Aria's world is and moral decision making is shaken when people who she may have previously deemed killable are suddenly... likable. These characters were so wonderfully young and lovable that I easily got sucked into every bit of YA drama they encountered. Sure, there's still big bads and tough choices, but the romance, action, and magic was perfectly blended together to make an irresistible story. I'm glad there are more of these coming!

This book was very well organized and I liked the biographies of several people with disabilities. The only thing that I noticed is that several people, such as Randy Snow, Christopher Reeve, Joni Earickson Tada, etc., were not included in the book. Otherwise, its a great book and would be a good resource for book reports for kids and teens.

An Amazing read for anyone to read about what it's like to be disabled and how you can still accomplish what a person wants with their lives. People of all ages should start experiencing/empathizing with people who are disabled. We are still people and all life should be preserved and respected.

I love this book and so does my older son (age 20) who has Aspergers. He is currently reading it with great enthusiasm, and carrying it with him wherever he goes; I think it is inspiring for him and encouraging. The format of the book is user-friendly, each chapter featuring one exceptional person, pictures included, chapters arranged in chronological order. The writing style is easy to read and understand, everyone in our household can enjoy this book (ages 12 to 50). People are fascinating, and this book celebrates that and piques our curiosity to learn more.

I bought this book for a student that as learning disabilities. It was just the kind of book I was looking for. Something to give him confidence.

Extraordinary People with Disabilities by Kent and Quinlan (Grolier Publishing 1996) This excellent book tells the stories of over 50 outstanding individuals who overcame their disabilities. It is written so that one can choose to read short segments. However, when I picked it up, I felt energized and needed to read it cover-to-cover. The people profiled are from a variety of racial and economic backgrounds. Many of these individuals had physical disabilities but some of the stories profile people with learning or emotional disabilities. Through these stories, the book takes an activist stance. It tells of many who not only overcame their own disabilities, but went on to help other disabled people. The stories make it easier to understand the points of view of disability rights activists. The final chapter gives an overview of important new technological aids for the disabled. It explains why some of these aids are controversial among the disabled community. A glossary gives succinct definitions of many of the terms used in the book. An appendix at the back of the book list many of the major organizations that advocate for individuals with physical and mental disabilities. I recently had a friend die from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS); coincidentally I received this book as a Christmas gift around the same time. I had seen "Tuesdays With Morrie" in the bookstore, but knew nothing about it and wasn't inclined to investigate further. That was my mistake. This is one of the best books that I have recently read, and is perhaps the best I have ever read that deals so directly with the specter of death.Mitch Albom always regarded Morrie Schwartz, his favorite college professor, as a mentor and inspiration. Despite pledging to stay in touch with his professor after school, he didn't until he heard that Morrie was suffering from ALS. After reconnecting with Schwartz, Mitch began flying to meet with him every Tuesday until Morrie died. This book is an account of that interaction, and the progression of the disease. More than that, though, it's an account of the lessons that Morrie taught Mitch, as much by the way he lived as by the things he said. These lessons form the themes of this book, and they are well worth the introspection that's bound to follow in any thoughtful person after reading this.Mitch and Morrie conceived the book together, but, of course, Morrie couldn't see the final product. Fortunately this book is here for all of us to examine and learn from. This is a book that is quick to read, but takes some time to fully digest: I recommend it highly to anyone and everyone, and especially to those with critical illnesses among their friends or families.While this might seem a depressing book, I actually found it to be quite the opposite. Morrie Schwartz taught Mitch how to live and die with grace, poise, and dignity; thankfully Mitch put this story on paper and used the advance money to pay Morrie's astronomical medical bills. Mitch obviously learned his lessons well.

Tuesdays with Morrie In “Tuesdays With Morrie,” Morrie was a teacher that had an endless amount of love for his job. He made connections with many of his students, and saw many of them as his friends. He and his student, Mitch, had become extremely close with one another. Years passed by and Mitch graduated, unfortunately losing touch with his beloved teacher. While he is living his own live, Morrie has entered a life long struggle. He has been “diagnosed with ALS, and not given very long to live” (Albom, 46). The moment Mitch gets word of this, he knows that he needs to meet with him and catch up before it’s too late. The two decide to meet every Tuesday. During these gatherings, Morrie teaches Mitch lessons that he could not possibly receive from anyone else. He tells him of his entire life, along with his mistakes, and his new found discoveries. His words change Mitch and all of his previous beliefs. This teacher has given his student the greatest gift of all, the gift of wisdom. I loved this book even more than I thought I would. The lessons are so raw and completely valuable to anyone who reads. Your perspective on life will be altered after reading this inspirational story. The love between these two people is so beautiful and deep-rooted. They were not even family, yet they were closer than many fathers and sons will ever be. They shared an unbreakable bond that strengthened throughout the journey of Morrie’s illness. I highly recommend this read to everyone who wants to learn a few lessons regarding life as a whole. You will not be disappointed. I hope you all take the time to read this beautiful piece of literature, it is something that everyone should read at least once in their lives. LK

When Mitch goes back to see his old professor, who has a limited time left due to a disease that has taken over his life, they recall life lessons from Morrie. Filled with advice for all ages, Tuesdays with Morrie is a short book that everyone should find the time to read. Whether you’re looking for a quick read or a meaningful book, Tuesdays with Morrie is guaranteed to leave you satisfied with a new outlook on life. After hearing news of Morrie’s impending death, Mitch takes a break from being a workaholic and goes back to visit his professor. Mitch becomes a developed character after listening and comprehending Morrie’s “last class”. Morrie tells various stories and outlooks on life which leave the reader looking for more advice and insight; for example, one of my favorite quotes from the book reads “Death ends a life, not a relationship”. This is truly a book which discusses the meaning of life, the priorities of life, and the perspectives of life. While this book can be a bit sad, as it discusses death and such, I still recommend this to those mature enough. However, do not be surprised if you become attached to the character Morrie and find yourself upset as you read about what he goes through on a daily basis with his disease. Besides that, Tuesdays with Morrie is a book that all people should read and enjoy. Find time to sit down, to enjoy, and to reflect on Morrie’s pure advice on life.

I read this book when it was first released several years ago and have long considered it a "how to" book when it comes to dealing with real things in real life. I bought three copies; one for myself since my original copy was absconded during a divorce (don't feel sorry for me, the divorce ended up being a good thing), and one for each of two people who I know and love who are going through some "stuff" right now. I wanted to help them see the big lessons in little things, and that in the end, as Morrie said "Love wins. Love always wins."I cannot recommend this book more highly. For anyone, anywhere, traveling this road of life.
