In my younger years this book (Aging with Grace: What the Nun study teaches us about leading longer, healthier and more meaningful live by David Snowdon, Ph.D.) would have never been read by me. However, sliding into old age has a way of changing the way we look at life and death. We become more aware of our own mortality. This study (the “Nun Study.”) was started in 1986 involving 678 Catholic sisters. The nun’s ages ranged from 75 to 106 year old. It focused on scientific research into Alzheimer’s and aging. In my opinion, this research project is most likely more relevant for women because only nuns were studied. I wonder if they conducted a study of a group of monks or priests what the results would be?The results of this study revealed information that is still being evaluated today. It discovered a relationship between “early high linguistic ability in early life seems to protect against Alzheimer’s.” The importance of preventing strokes and depression is also vital in combating Alzheimer’s.This book is organized into 12 interesting and informative chapters. They include the following: the road to good counsel hill, the last nun standing, gray matters, the great gift, a tale of two sisters, amazing brains, one with the words, family ties, the heart of the matter, our daily bread, up and grateful and the hundred-year marathon. Purchased this book because it was required for a gerontology graduate course, but the course hasn't even started yet & I've already read this book. I really, truly enjoyed it. Not so much technical language that someone not in the fields discussed couldn't understand/keep up. The more technical parts, such as brain anatomy, are explained in a non-condescending way so the reader can comprehend the full story while also taking away new latent knowledge.

This is a wonderful overview of the Nun Study, its process and results. It offers insights into Alzheimer’s and other dementias as well as hope for the general process of aging. If offers key elements beyond science that seem to make for successful aging. Very readable!

AWESOME BOOK!!! Dr. Snowdon managed to take a super scientific study and make it super exciting, understandable and gave it a personal side. I gave this book as gifts to my mother, my aunt, my friend and I forget who else. I have also recommended it to many people facing Alzheimer's or, better, with relatives who have it. This book was so helpful and yet WAY more interesting than most journal articles and understandable for anyone and everyone!

Ever since my father's diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, I've worried about the little things I forget. Never mind that I've always been a little absentminded, I fretted about whether I received the dreaded APOE-4 gene in the genetic package he bequeathed me.This book gave me hope - lots of it!It shows clearly that the symptoms of Alzheimer's are not merely an immutable result of your genetic heritage but also of how you've lived your life. This book is so well written and readable. He weaves the story of his research project around the lives of particular nuns who illustrate the topic of that chapter. Lots of very good information too with recommendations on what you should be doing throughout your life and into your golden years to be able to live a long, productive live with most of your mental faculties.

Dr. Snowdon’s Research and study is the starting point to the journey of curing Alzheimer’s Disease. His commitment and compassion is seen throughout the book. I was very inspired by his work and grateful to the nuns who participated. A great read!!

I'm updating this review after using this book for 26 weeks:This journal does a good job of prompting you to write about things you might not have thought to discuss. Somewhat of a "fill in the blank" process, the journal has incomplete sentences that you fill in. There have been several, such as, "Baby, what I really want you to know about me is _______________" that I probably wouldn't have ever thought to include in my baby journal, and was glad to write about. Some other examples of this are:"My parents are acting ______ and it makes me feel ______""The baby can hear now. What he/she probably hears most is _____.""Baby, someone gave me this advice about you and I don't want to forget it: ______".However, there are only 9 pages for photos, and next to no room to record what's happening each week during my pregnancy, as the entire page each week is taken up by these fill-in-the-blank questions. Some of the prompts don't pertain to me (such as ones that talked a lot about morning sickness, which wasn't a major part of my pregnancy), and others made me VERY uncomfortable, such as these examples:"My boobs are (check what applies):_ A teenage boy's dream_ A bit in the way_ Totally painful and huge_ Lovely. Really lovely._ Other: ___________"Another that made both me and my husband squirm and wonder what the author was thinking:"Intimacy is ___________ and involves _______________________ (goes on for three lines)."Since most of the prompts in this book are slated toward the baby one day reading it (they say things like "Baby, what I really want you to know is ____"), I can't imagine why I'd want to tell my baby about intimacy with my husband and then describe it! Ick.I'm glad to explore my feelings about the pregnancy through the insightful prompts in the book, but I would not use it for a future pregnancy nor recommend it to others. I'm also using The Belly Book: A Nine-Month Journal for You and Your Growing Belly (Potter Style) right now, which allows for photos each week and again for ultrasounds, and also has lots of room to write, unfettered, most weeks. In addition, it does ask some questions about every 4-6 weeks, so there is some "fill-in-the-blank" but it's much more balanced that in From Pea to Pumpkin. After using both for 26 weeks, I like The Belly Book much better for these reasons and also because it is big enough to store mementos and has space each trimester for notes on prenatal visits. I'd highly recommend that book unless you feel you'd prefer the guidance of the fill-in-the-blanks each week and don't want room for photos.

I feel like the book is dated and I'm not crazy about the fill in the blanks it provides. Some of them are weird, asking about breasts or sensual desire, some ask about things I'm not experiencing, like negative body images, and then some are repetitive, yes, I still want my baby to find happiness in life. I feel like the fruits it provides for baby body comparison are way off from what my apps show. I enjoy filling out a weekly journal, but wish it didn't have the guidelines and was just blank. I'm still using it since I put a few weeks into it before I started not liking it but not my favorite.

I bought this book and filled it out for my daughter. I liked it so much, I bought another for my next pregnancy. It's cute that it allows for several keepsakes throughout my pregnancy (pictures, ultrasounds, announcements, ect).My only criticism is that is seems slightly targeted at first pregnancies. Other than that, I really enjoyed writing in in both last time and now. Right now, I just occasionally change some words in sentences to make them more applicable to my subsequent pregnancy. :)

This journal is so perfect for my pregnancy! Being a veggie loving vegan, it suits my personality - however even if you aren't that much in alignment, it's perfect for week by week tracking of your experiences, attaching photos, and sharing your journey through pregnancy! Love the format (I've looked through every page already, even though I'm only 6 weeks), has a ribbon marker for easily finding where you left off, beautiful design and will be fun to share with family and baby! Excellent decision and I'm even more excited to fill it in now, thank you!

I'm sorry but this book is really not good. Perhaps it's because I used The Belly Book (highly recommend!) with my first pregnancy so I had high expectations but honestly, the questions in this book are a bit strange and confusing. For example "Sleeping requires ___(fill in the blank)___ And sometimes ____(fill in the blank)___. Intimacy is ____(fill in the blank)____ and involved ____(fill in the blank)____" Huh?! Am I writing an adult novel?? Maybe it's me but there are a lot of questions that I've put "???" as my response, which isn't the best way to document this pregnancy. There's really no variety in format from week to week; there's a series of odd questions and that's it. What's also a bit odd, each page has questions which are meant to be read by your child (presumably you'd give them the book when they grow up) but then three questions above it, I'm being asked to provide details on my "romance status". Ummmmmm. Yes, every kid wants to read the details of their parents' sex-life. That makes perfect sense. I feel pretty bad that this child will get the creepy pregnancy journal while my first born will get the Bible of belly books. Hopefully this one's a boy.

We adore this book. There are a lot of options out there for this type of item, but we are really happy we chose this one. It has one page for each week with just enough questions to be thorough but not so many that you will feel overwhelmed. Some of the other books are so involved it just sucks the fun out of it. The illustrations are adorable. There is also room for photos, mementos, and stories as well. It's great!My only complaint is that it is really geared toward mommies only, and specifically, the mommy carrying the baby. My husband and I have been doing it together by labeling who is writing what. I wish it was just a tad bit more general so that significant others can participate more easily.

First, let me say that this is the first review I have ever posted on Amazon. Second, I purchased this book on my own volition after reading a review about it on an Instagram book review page called book_rear _views. After reading this review, I felt compelled to read this book for myself, but it was not until I actually read it for myself did I truly understand, and appreciate, the depth and meaning of the message contained within it.I have read many books in my lifetime, but only a few have left me in tears because of the beauty and grace of the story being told, and the message within the story. This book, The Mount of Olives, is now on that list, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. This book truly did bring tears to my eyes and move my heart. That is when you know you have experienced something great, and this book, in my humble opinion, is something great. It is a book that should be read by everyone, and is written in the spirit of other great books like The Greatest Miracle In the World, by Og Mandino and The Richest Man In Babylon, by George Clason. In the Greatest Miracle In The World, Simon Potter affectionately refers to certain books as "hand of God books," because they are books that he believed were touched by the hand of God. In my opinion, this is one of those books. You will not regret reading it!

It was a pleasure, Michael Ivanov, to read your book. I finished it with tears. It was good! It was touchy! It was encouraging! And most of all, I learned from it :) A lot of what you have said in it, I do already. I initially bought this book for my brother who is doing some time in prison. He really liked this book and said that he will be passing it around to other inmates. He also recommended I'd give this book a try. I really enjoyed the story line and felt as if I was the boy going through the journey. It is a beautifully written story which incorporates clear, concise, and relatable information about how to live your best life. I read another review here that called it a, “slow read.” I couldn’t disagree more!!! The storyline was so engaging and the declarations blended so well that it never felt dull or monotonous. I felt it was the opposite!!! I would’ve finished it all in one sitting if I’d had the time!!! I read it every spare minute I had. It’s not a very long book maybe 150 pages, I finished it in less that 2 days.

I have to give this book 5 out of 5 stars based on how adequately it prepares you to pass the MTA 98-364 exam. I used it in conjunction with some training videos on Lynda.com and Microsoft Virtual Academy, and easily passed the exam despite somewhat limited database experience. There are definitely some typos throughout the book, but they do not take away from the quality of the book's content. It does a great job of covering the basics, and only touches on advanced concepts where necessary to improve contextual understanding. The questions at the end of each chapter help with content retention and it also does a great job of highlighting what's important to focus on for the exam.

Was very happy with the easy to understand definitions and the clear and concise examples. Also glad that it mostly stayed towards the exam objectives unlike other books that wander into niche topics. There are quite a few typos, but none the less this is a quality book.

Good information but not well written. A co-author would have been good here.

Have nothing negative to say about this book. It is well-structured, easy to read and scoped to the exam. Recommended.

I spent about two weeks reading through this book a few times. The exam itself is pretty straightforward, requiring knowledge of the commands listed and some concept stuff regarding databases, but there was nothing I felt blindsided by and my own experience with SQL is pretty minimal.

I found many grammatical, spelling, and punctuation typos in the book. It didn’t include some material that was on the exam but I did pass my certification.

It's a good introductory book. Take it as your first SQL book, look no further. It has also some high level concepts of DBA. You won't become a DBA or a DEV with it, but it's a gateway book for heavier manuals later on.

This is a well written, well illustrated book that I will use to teach my grandchildren whittling. In addition to the little projects, it has helpful discussions of each type of cut and how to do it safely.

Decent projects, although we're not into gargoyles and such. Bought it for my 13 yo and it was a little beyond his capabilities. Very instructional though, and we learned about the good techniques of whittling.

Almost all of these require you to first cut out the basic shape with a band saw. Not so great for just whittling out in the yard, spur of the moment. Pretty much a waste for me.

This is a great list of projects, and each on has a template. The projects found in this book are somewhat unique, they aren't mostly overlaps with other books, which is a problem I found with other books. The only downside to this book is that the "whittling 101" section isn't very long, so if you haven't whittled before, don't rely on this book for that. Otherwise a great book!

Great for small bits of time.... like waiting for ball/swim/soccer/piano practice to get over!! I usually give them away to the younger kids waiting for their brother or sister to finish practice. Fun, easy. Great!

Good book with easy-to-do projects but I am not that impressed by the eBook version. Should have sucked it up and bought the paperback version.

I would have given if 5stars if the patterns had been larger.The projects are fun and great for beginners on up.Also, Gene Messer has chosen some of the projects to do on his YouTube post as well.I recommend it.

Bought the book for my Grandchildren and the Kindle version for myself. I have been carving for over 55 years, but this book is perfect for sitting with my grandchildren and the projects provided aid in success for anyone wanting to learn to carve.

I absolutely loved this book! It has always been a dream of mine to travel without baggage. However, I always overpack! In 2008 I traveled to Turkey and visited many of Clara's sites. Her descriptions are perfect and capture the essence of the country. To also be dealing with her "relationship" added another level to her travels. I raced through this book, on a journey I didn't want to end. I recommend this book to all travelers, and especially armchair travelers!

I enjoyed this quick read. It makes me think a lot about how I travel with way too much "just in case I might need it" stuff. And the "no emotional baggage" concept is a really tough one to carry off! I would have liked to know how the author came to end her two-year hibernation due to depression. What made her decide to really live? I hope she does more writing.

This was chosen by my book club members. They did a good job. Bensen has a way with words that make you smile while making you think. This is a cute memoir and an inspiring read for those of us who pack super light. I enjoyed reading about their adventures through eastern Europe and how they managed when things didn't go as planned. Being on my own quest for the perfect bag, I would have loved to know what bag Clara took, but that's a minor qualm. I wish there was more to the book, and details on their subsequent no baggage trips!

3.5 starsNo Baggage is about a twenty-something learning how to live baggage-free both physically and emotionally. I think Bensen's strength is her ability to paint scenes and landscapes. She makes great use of analogy to familiarize unfamiliar places for the reader. I think she would make a great travel writer. The emotional story throughout the book is interesting enough, but I actually found her self-awareness and deprecation a bit too much. I didn't like how often she seemed to apologize for how she felt, but I understand how painfully self-aware twenty-somethings can be. This book did a good job though of reminding me how uncomfortable my 20's were, so I do applaud her frank approach. On a side note, I really hope she outgrew this Jeff character, he is truly the most painful part of this whole journey. Overall, this book is a bit obvious for someone older though probably really fascinating to read if you're in your 20's or into the YA genre.

Loved the writing. Read it with my daughter while traveling- we both wished we had left with just a purse and a dress! Hope she writes more.

This book can stand proudly on its own even if it is compared to "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. Our book group could have spent more than a single evening discussing "No Baggage". Clara Bensen is brilliant and brave in sharing her personal experience and provides insight for anyone walking the thrilling but stony path that comes with every life.

What a delightful read on minimalism, wanderlust, travel and love. You'll enjoy this refreshing take on a modern romance. Highly recommend.

Using Amazon text book rental was awesome because they usually have much better prices and the book always arrives on time. I was worried about renting because I am the type of person who forgets to send it back then I pay more for it because of late fees. However, Amazon is great because they send constant reminder emails. They late me know they care but not having me spend more money but being late. They also paying for shipping it back. JUST REMEMBER TO KEEP THE BOX IT CAME IN SO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SEND IT BACK IN. Don;t waste your money buying a package if you have a perfectly good box you get it in.. Unless of course you have cats they and tear it up ;)

This book is very well researched. In fact too well researched. There is no narrative. It's like having to read 50 boring journal articles back to back (and you would think the subject would be interesting). I tried hard to pick up some pearls but felt frustrated chapter after chapter. The book, like a "lousy supervisor", lacks "an effective teaching strategy" which is a bit ironic.

Useful in my practice

I purchased this book as part of a graduate psychology course in supervision and consultation. I found this book to be immensely helpful due to its depth and the wide variety of issues covered. As a graduate student this book was essential while beginning the supervision process, additionally, as a practicing clinician it has continued to be very useful. This book is a bang for the buck!

Despite being published several years ago, this remains my go-to guide for all things supervision. I teach a "supervision of supervision" course and I have my students read this book to get a sense of the empirical and theoretical bases for decision making in their supervision practices.

I will use it as reference

At last a thorough guide to being a Clinical Supervisor. Although a bit dry to read at times the information is invaluable to anyone who is currently supervising or considering becoming a clinical supervisor.

Really uninteresting book which relies solely on dogmatic research about supervision. I can't believe I spent all that money on it. Not worth it in my honest opinion.
