Published in 2002, it is alsoa workbook where you go through the different exercises over a period of 12 weeks or three months. I did all the exercises, including the morning pages. It shifted me as a person as well as helped me acknowledge the creative side of who I am. It’s really freed out some of my inner wounds and also helped me to feel much more liberated and be more creative in my personal and professional life.I recommend this book to all people, even those who don’t think that they’re creative because really, when we allow our inner child to come out and play, we have much more joy in our lives and this will allow us to be creative in other areas in our personal and professional life.Whatever job that you are in, you may think it does not involve creativity. You’ll be wrong. There are elements of creativity in everything that we do. Be a fuller person so that you are just much more integrated with all that you are so that you reach your fullest potential.

The Kindle edition is an excellent choice for using the Artists's Way workbook. Previously I had bought the print spiral bound edition, hoping to use it but I never did, because I did not want to fill in the pages of the print book, so as to save the print book for re-use or to sell later. However, in the Kindle edition, I am able to go on to my PC and copy and paste the assignments and tasks into my own Word documents, making my own book in effect to use and re-use and type in the assignments in the actual pages. To me it is well worth the extra cost to have the Kindle edition workbook to avoid typing in the assignments..

I loved it! I decided to actually follow the guidelines for the book - one chapter a week, doing the written exercises, the morning pages, the artist day..and I stuck to it. That is not usual for me, but I decided to give it a try..and it worked! I still do not go to my studio as often as I should and I am still not as disciplined as I should be..but it doesn't bother me as much and I keep to the thought that this should be fun...and I have more fun! The side effect that I had completely not anticipated at all, was that I lost 25 pounds over the 16 weeks (16 chapters) and I wasn't even trying. Doing the written exercises, thinking through the material, remembering things, and writing morning pages, reduced anxiety and stress and I guess I just ate less. That made me feel good, and good feelings kept building, so, I really recommend this book to anyone who wants to try a 16week course to reexamine your life journey and pursue a more creative life ahead. I have now bought this book for so many friends..but it really doesn't do the magic unless you put the time into it. So, if you buy it, agree to all the exercises, or it is just another self-help book that will not sink in. Good luck!

This book is very engaging with a variety of activities. However I also purchased the 25th anniversary Edition and there is too much redundancy to warrant purchasing both.

This is a journey. A journey of a lifetime. If you are so fortunate to open this book and workbook; your life could not ever be the same . The book took away the pain of no decisions, bad decisions and decisions made for me. I did and you may discover the creative person you are and were meant to be. Nothing is the same, for me I have broken chains that bound me to labor. I have re constructed who I am. Please get these 2 items and join me in a life worth living that can never be stolen or lost again.

I bought this as a gift and haven't heard how she liked it. I loved it, as did my niece when i gave it to her a few years ago. However, although I expected the anniversary edition to be especially nice it actually wasn't as nice as the original and I regretted choosing it.

Some people may not like this workbook because it's lined pages with quotes. That's it. But, for me, it's very helpful as a way to get me to actually do it. There are exactly 3 pages for each day of the 12 week program. If you don't fill the 3-pages, then you're behind. For me, this is helpful in motivating me to get up early and fill in the 3 pages. Plus, the quotes make writing more meaningful.

Even though it’s a bit too spiritual for me, honestly I almost quit on the book after reading the intro. and I was really rather skeptical about how this book would help me. It sounded a bit corny like self help book for artist. Like chicken soap for the artist soul.But getting past that and actually getting into doing the assignments and homework the book ask that you do week after week. I found the book was really helpful. I guess its like anything else where you get what you put in out of it and it’s different for everyone.I read somewhere that this book might have come out too soon for its own good. I think that if had added what we know today about neurology and how the brain works, instead of the spiritual stuff it would have been better off.I have recommended this book to others (artist friends) and have had moments where I felt I needed to reread a curtain part or do a curtain writing task again. Underneath the things that turned me off, there really are some priceless gems within the pages. And if you make it too the end of the 12 weeks you’ll be glad you did.But depending on who you are and how many issues you might have (rough childhood, stuff thats happen to you in the past) I recommend this book with a bit a caution. This book causes you to face a lot of things. So just be ready for that.

Wallace Allan Wood (1927–1981) rebooted Marvel's Daredevil, designing the iconic costume that recently appeared on the smash hit Netflix series. He was one of the best and funniest cartoonists of the earliest iteration of Mad magazine and, thanks to his work on the EC Comics line, he is also widely considered one of America’s greatest science-fiction cartoonists. With his magazine anthology witzend, he helped pioneer underground/independent comics publishing.Bhob Stewart (b. 1937, Kirbyville, Texas, d. 2014, Plymouth, Massachusetts) divided his time between mass and fan media. He was chiefly a writer and editor, although he also drew and acted. He is best known for founding one of the first comics fanzines, EC Fan Bulletin, in 1953; for coining the term “underground comics”; and for art-directing the Hugo Award-winning science fiction fanzine Xero. Stewart invented the Wacky Packages trading card series for Topps, and wrote comics for clients such as Marvel and Heavy Metal. He worked in Wallace Wood’s studio for a time, and became the de facto steward of the influential EC cartoonist’s legacy. Co-author of Scream Queens with Calvin Beck, he edited the Mad Style Guide, and co-edited the seminal underground comics tabloid Gothic Blimp Works?. As an educator, he taught courses in Boston and at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Well, please excuse me if this is a brief review (in the middle of something and have some back pain). I've long been a Wally Wood fan...from at least the seventies...and if you count his work in Mad Magazine...then from about 1960. This guy was an artistic genius...with a great (maybe kind've twisted) sense of humor....and both his Sci-Fi stuff and erotic stuff (like "Sally Forth" and the Disneyland satirical work, first shown in "Screw Magazine" (of which I was a subscriber) were FIRST damn RATE. I guess I could add that I was a member of his fan club in the late seventies...and I've long had a good, little collection of his stuff...including a fair amount of the (already mentioned) Sally Forth content (wonderful, and better than Kurtzman's "Little Annie Fanny (in Playboy Magazine)). This volume is simply JAM-PACKED with premium Wood stuff. Yep, a little pricey...but you have this volume in your mitts...and you feel like you've just had a second Xmas...or "died and gone to heaven." REALLY NICE STUFF (to "write home about")!!!!!!I 'spose I could mention that--at the same time---I also grabbed Wood's "Spawn of Mars," which was equally excellent.

Fantastic layout and quality.

I gave the first volume of this two-volume collection only four stars, as it was a reprint of a previous book. However, this collection is much better as it features colour work, and a lot of it uncensored art, which the book "Against the Grain" didn't.This book collects what I believe was the better work of Wood, from the 60s onwards. It also includes some samples of his porno comics, which many fans were disappointed about. Make your own judgements (it's still Wood). There's lots of great anecdotes by those who knew him, his assistants, friends, etc. I actually enjoyed this volume more than the first one. I guess most people are fans of the sci-fi work he did for EC (and thus stuck to only volume one), but this one features much better work. I agree with Wood when he said his work was better in the 1960s.Again, Wood fans can do no wrong by getting this volume (and the first one too). I know it's a reprint, but this showcases better the artwork and it's published at a lather size!I can't believe I'm the only person doing a review here, since it's already been out for a while (and this volume is better than the first one). Highly recommended!

If you are Wood guy (sorry) you have to have both volumes. Lavish table top book.

I have lived much of my life in the area and have family connections with Gettysburg. That said, I had only hazy knowledge of the Harrisburg part of the campaign. This book is probably about all that we will get until the 200th anniversary roles around, but fortunately, it is excellent in its coverage of the Union side of the operation. The Confederate side is covered fairly well, but there is apparently a shortage of documentation.I would have liked the maps to printed larger; when you have to squint to read a unit label, it tends to distract from an overall appreciation of the situation covered. Having traveled up and down I-81 numerous times, I have some idea of the terrain and how the campaign fit together, but there is no map coverage south of Shippensburg. It would have been nice to have had an introductory map of the whole area south to Hagerstown with indications of the areas covered by the smaller maps.Besides filling in the coverage of the Civil War, readers should note the shortcomings of the militia system on display. Despite the relatively simple requirements of the period, the PA and NY militias did not shine. Although quality varied, in general units panicked easily, often in the face of inferior numbers. After several encounters, they tended to settle down, but it is clear that the senior officers with experience could not use the militia like regular troops until they had those encounters. Proponents of the modern militia movement would do well to give sober consideration to this experience.

I enjoyed this book, because I learned something new about the battle and indeed the Civil War itself. I am well read on the battle of Gettysburg and was aware of General Ewell's northernmost probe towards Harrisburg, but I wasn't aware of how close it had come to success before he was recalled to concentrate the Confederate forces for the larger battle ahead. If General Mead's advance towards Gettysburg had been a day or two late, it is likely Harrisburg would have been taken by the Confederates, with profound political effects. It was instructive to me to see how poorly prepared and led the local militias were, though they labored mightily to perfect their defenses. Also, it was interesting to note the impact of poor intelligence and rumors on the course of the confrontations.

Wingert, like Scott Mingus, has a knack for burrowing into a relatively small subject, operations on the edge of the battle of Gettysburg, and put them in a tactical and operational context. One should remember that the battle at Gettysburg was in part the result of not capturing, either or both, the bridge at Harrisburg and the one at Wrightsville (Mingus' "Flames Before Gettysburg"). Wingert explains the how and why the Confederates failed by digging into original sources overlooked by others. His maps seem properly scaled to the page, unlike some of the other books in the History Press series which shrink them down to the point of uselessness. Maps and period pictures are often extended with modern photos that are well produced. And, while there are many pictures of bearded generals that actually led the fighting, there are no pointless pictures of Lee and Meade.

Very useful and interesting book on a little known aspect of the American Civil War. Thoroughly documented and easy to read, this book deserves a place on every historian's bookshelf. Highly recommended.

I bought this book because my knowledge of statistics was spotty. I saw this book being recommended on Quora and in some other places and printed the 3rd chapter from the freely available PDF version. I loved the clarity of the content, examples that were after my heart and the fact that the book had a course on DataCamp and accompanying R exercise files.After I devoured the 3rd chapter, I ordered this "cheap" paperback (cheap just means that it has no color illustrations).Chapter 4 is still exceptional, I keep reading it.Update (2018-12-15): I've finished up to chapter 6 and the content is amazing. Highly recommend this book!

I really love this biostats book a lot. First, it’s super affordable and there are free electronic versions and resources online. Secondly, it’s very easy to read and informative. The example problems at the end of each chapter are very helpful. Overall, just a great book and one that I will reference for years.

This book provides an excellent intro to stats as well as tools to challenge yourself along the way (quizes, tests, real world examples). It quickly accelerates from intro to more complex stats. You'll be amazed at how much you can learn in each chapter. There are many examples. It seems there are more examples than reading material in order to learn the subject. Some examples are explained better than others. There are many questions for review at the end of the chapters. However, only the odd ones have answers. I am using this along with the Coursera course taught by the same instructor.

A lot of the material can also be found in other intro to statistics textbooks. But, this one is a lot cheaper. I also link the binding - good and tight. The best part is actually the exercises for each chapter. It is quite difficult to collect and organize the data and information to be used as an exercise.

Each sentence of "The Beauty" is packed with meaning. Don't expect any fluffy filler. This style is not suited for mega-tome page epic-fiction! Instead, it begs to be read aloud, like a poem... as the protagonist would tell a story. The best way to communicate the style is with Excerpts (see below). No worries, I left out any mushroom/human romance.Don't let the intellectual narrative fool you, there is plenty of action. Each section ramps up the tension dramatically as Nate and the other men are confronted with fungal manifestations of women, and they struggle with repulsion and attraction. With the future of humanity on the line, and the desire to reproduce, there is much at stake. Jealously and murder ensue. Incidentally, my son and I are playing Dark Souls 1 (remastered) and Dark Souls 3, and the vision of the Parent/Child Mushrooms from Darktoot Garden and Ash Lake were evoked. Imagine if you were encouraged to start a family with those!In summary, The Beauty offered everything I expected and desired: a mysterious adventure, evocative prose, and unique storytelling. It is deep, but thrilling.PEACE, PIPE, is a bonus story that is 50% of this book. An alien diplomat chronicles its exploits (having accidentally started a war on Demeter) while quarantined and communicating to a pipe (which speaks as water flows through it, and evokes the sounds of a flushing toilet). Again, the themes of storytelling and communication are foundations, as well as an invitation to the reader to change perspectives on different cultures. I had no idea what to expect when I started reading The Beauty. Honestly, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. Aliya Whiteley has written an intriguing tale. The women are all dead, killed off by a strange disease, and men are all that is left. The age of humanity is coming to an end. But a young storyteller in a group of men, Nathan, has found what he believes to be their saving grace.What follows is a story that is reminiscent of H.P. Lovecraft’s works. After finishing The Beauty, I felt as if my brain and been taken out and played with. While I thoroughly enjoyed Whiteley’s writing style and poetic prose, I was left wanting. I wanted more details on the downfall of humanity, a more complete ending, just more. That being said, I was kept on the edge of my seat. The Beauty is indeed a unique story, unlike anything I’ve ever read. It will keep you thinking and you won’t be able to put it down.

Wow, this is a weird one. Dark, surreal, filled with more questions than answers, but fascinating from beginning to end. The only complaint I could possibly muster is that I wanted more, but what is here in the pages is perfect; complex, twisted, and unique, very articulate and exceptionally emotionally resonant. Highly recommended.

Aliya Whiteley's The Beauty is the first book that I've reviewed twice, because I feel that it deserves a second review due to the fact that this new edition (published by Titan Books) contains an additional story that is excellent and worth reading.I consider Aliya Whiteley's The Beauty to be one of the utmost best and most original weird fiction books ever published, because it's a masterpiece of modern weird fiction and imaginative storytelling. In this book, beauty and frailty interlink with terror and perversion in a unique way. I applaud the author for her bravery to write speculative fiction that is boldly different, deeply unsettling and strikingly original. She's one of the few authors who dare to explore difficult themes in a transgressive and thought-provoking way.The title story, "The Beauty", tells of a post-apocalyptic society of men and boys where all women have died because of a fungus plague. The members of the society gather around the fire each night and listen to tales recounted by their storyteller, Nate. Nate's stories keep alive the memories of what has happened. Nate has witnessed signs of change and regeneration in the graveyard where the women's bodies lie beneath the soil, because mushrooms form outlines of the buried women. One day Nathan meets a strange yellow, spongy and limbed thing in the woods. This strange creature has the shape of a woman.Nate is a fascinating protagonist, because he tells stories to his fellow men. His stories reveal what has happened and how things have changed since the women died of the plague. The other characters are also interesting and the author writes fluently about their actions.In my opinion, Aliya Whiteley's vision of a post-apocalyptic world is fascinatingly harrowing and haunting. As the events begin to unfold, the author steers her story towards enticing heights of strangeness that are often left unexplored. She examines metamorphoses, parasitic fungi, gender roles, social dynamics and leadership issues in a mesmerising way."The Beauty" can be seen as the ultimate reading experience in fungal horror fiction, because it's a an unsettling story about a strange fungal presence. It's totally different from normal horror fiction due to its unapologetic way of chilling the reader's heart and mind with brilliantly disturbing imagery.The additional story, "Peace, Pipe", which is exclusive to this edition of The Beauty, is an excellent story about communication between a human being and an alien being. It demonstrates the author's versatility as a writer, because it's different from "The Beauty", but has a few connections to the themes explored in it.In this novelette, the unnamed narrator has been quarantined after a space mission and starts to hear an alien voice coming from behind the wall. The voice belongs to a being called Pipe, a mysterious water-based life form. Pipe is unlike any other alien species the narrator has come across, because it learns fast and is highly intelligent. The narrator is intrigued about Pipe and the mystery that surrounds it.I was fascinated by this novelette, because the author explores how human beings could establish communication with different life forms and how they could come to understand them. I like the author's way of addressing the difficulties involved in reaching a sufficient level of understanding, because she does it well.What makes "Peace, Pipe" unique is that Aliya Whiteley plays intriguingly with the idea that Pipe may not be an alien being after all, but merely a gurgling water pipe making strange sounds. This impressed me, because the possibility of everything being only imagination adds a brilliant touch of strangeness to the story.Aliya Whiteley's literary prose will entice everybody who appreciates beautiful storytelling and literary fiction. Her prose is not merely subtly beautiful and wonderfully nuanced, but also emotional and heartbreaking. She writes captivatingly about strange happenings and delves deep into hidden wells of weirdness that are seldom explored by speculative fiction authors. I admire her writing skills, because she effortlessly evokes a sense of strangeness and pays attention to creating an unsettling atmosphere. Her fiction has a harrowing and unsettling edge to it that will impress readers.The Beauty is a prime example of why speculative fiction is a powerful force to reckon with and should not be overlooked by anybody. It contains bold ideas and unforgettable imagery that you will never find in mainstream fiction, and what's best, it's filled with beautiful literary prose that highlights the strange happenings.If you yearn to read something amazing, unsettling and heartbreaking, I advise you to take a look at Aliya Whiteley's The Beauty, because it's a unique masterpiece of literary weirdness from a gifted author with a stunning and original voice of her own. This book belongs to everybody's bookshelf who loves the darker and weirder side of speculative fiction, because the title story is simply amazing. The additional story, "Peace, Pipe" serves as a wonderful counterbalance to the strangeness of the title story, because it's fascinating and heartbreaking in a different way.
