I'm physically 23, on the verge of 24, and while I know I'm still young, I was under A LOT of stress the past 3+ years with family issues, depression, drugs & alcohol, etc and just recently my face started too seriously sag and I was quickly losing that youthful look that I took for granted. I was so stressed for so long, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner... But I wads aging quickly in the face and I felt hopeless as I was still 18-20 mentally.Anyway, I decided to completely start over with my life right after I turned 23 by going back to college and pretending I'm 20 again and completely starting over, I just felt out of place, like a mismatch, cause of how different my face felt... It felt stressed, saggy for my age, etc.And THEN the magic started happening... I ordered this book and I did a few excersises and didn't notice anything. I got lazy and put it down... Then, a few weeks before 2012, I started doing the excercises once a day, not even 2-3 times a day like advised... And here, 2 weeks later, I can NOT believe how my face has reversed in time like it has. I look very, very good. I see girls who see me everyday give me that second look like "damn he looks good." and I feel amazing. Not only does it make u look younger, u just look freaking good... Muscular/athletic face, glowing complexion. And u feel so "tight", I love it. I will do facial excercises for at least the next 20 years. I think you are supposed to excercise ur face, just like ur body. Muscles are muscles.I now KNOW for a fact that brad Pitt did these exercises religiously and that's why he always had that perfect jaw line, huge jaw muscle things, and just why he looked so good at 35+ years old... He was smart. Look at pics of him in his early 20's, his face looks NOWHERE near how he does in movies.DOWNFALLS of the book: several of the exercises are described poorly as it takes many times to finally understand what she's trying to say. I still dont know if I'm doing a few of them right cause she describes them so poorly. The pictures don't help very much either. She also doesn't talk about using stuff like exfoliating face washes, face lotion, face masks, etc. I use all that stuff and I think it goes hand in hand with the excercises.

I bought this book because, at 61, I was not pleased with the way my face was aging. I didn't want toxic injections and this seemed like a good alternative. I did the exercises for about 2 months and didn't really notice any change. Then, I took a look at the photos that the author suggests you take before you start the program. I was really surprised at the changes in my face. These exercises work on all areas of your face so I think it's several subtle changes that do the trick. I would have given it more stars if the exercises were easier to follow. I wish there was a Men's Facebuilder video.

A good facial exercise book, if one will stick with it. Many are difficult to do. And since I have an arthiritic neck, I've had to make a couple of adjustments to better adapt the exercises to myself. But, I have no doubt of Ms. Maggio's claim that one can remove years off his face with 2-10 mins. work-out a day. I recommend the book and exercises, along with her other advice as to cleansing products, etc.

These exercises do work, you need about a month, but if you stay on schedule you will see results. Takes about 15 minutes a day.

Pretty good book for everybody who wants to look young

I like the exercises for your face you can do them pretty quickly once you learn them

Gift to husband, he wasn't impressed but was impressed with the results xXx

I made the mistake of puchasing this book for a friend at the same time I ordered the ladies' version (Facercise). After two weeks of practicing the exercises my friend said he was still uncertain as to how the exercises were supposed to be done. As with the "Facercise" book, the exercises are not clearly explained in word or picture. Maggio cutesy-poo ("sucking tiny lemons...visualize the pencil growing longer" GIMMEE A BREAK!)is no substitute for good directions. And why does this execrable book cost $$$o much? Maybe Carol needs money to get rid of those bunches of lines beside her mouth-she needs to practice Miss Craig's face exercises instead.I have since purchased 2 copies of Miss Craig's Face Saving Exercises. Both my friend and I agree that the original (Miss Craig) is still THE GREATEST! You can achieve wonderful results with Miss Craig's exercises-she targets every area of the face with carefully designed, lucidly explained exercises. This will bring about an overall toning (and thereby)smoothing of the face and neck.plus, Miss Craig's witty comparisons of familiar facial expressions to every exercise is of immense help in understanding and performing each exercise.Applause for Miss Craig. Thumbs down for Carol Maggio.

#922,241 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

Troy Bayliss achieved an extraordinary record of roadracing success over a long career that started in his native Australia and ended on the world's premier podiums based on his skill and courage. He took three World Superbike championships and a surprising end-of-career win in MotoGP (Valencia, 2006, flag to flag) that delighted his fans.Though Bayliss rode many different machines over the years, his name became associated most strongly with Ducati and his achievements on this great Italian marque. He richly deserves the publisher's lavish treatment here, working with the fine writer Andrew Trevitt, formerly of SPORT RIDER, who worked with Bayliss over Skype in preparing the book. The foreword is by Paolo Ciabatti, who now heads Ducati Corse and brought Bayliss in.This great big (9 X 11) book is basically a rider's instruction manual, a companion to Nick Ienatsch's book from Bull Publishing. Bayliss covers the rider, visual skills, selecting optimal corner lines, steering, braking, body position, throttle control, reference points, mental and physical considerations away from the track (or road), rain and extreme conditions, bike setup and racecraft (especially valuable for up-and-coming racers). Every page is packed with insights and anecdotes. It's like having the author at one's side, guiding and helping.Bayliss comes across in the book just as he is in person: strongly positive, gregarious, fun-loving, disciplined as a professional, direct in his approach, openly willing to share his techniques in detail. This track-day rider's and racer's book will also help road riders who want to be fast and safe. It is lavishly illustrated with outstanding photographs that include many of the great riders of Bayliss' period, such as Mick Doohan and Noriyuki Haga, and effective diagrams, for example a computer trace of throttle position, brake application, speed and gearing at the great Phillip Island track in South Australia, and cornering lines in different types of turn. All the publisher's traditional production values are evident, making for an outstanding reading and learning experience.

So I was hoping for some kind of "ah ha" moment when I was reading this book, but sadly, Troy (and Andrew who helped write it) don't really explore any concept particularly in great depth or at an advanced level. It seems most of the book revolves around Troy talking about a concept and how he applied these concepts during his racing career at various tracks around the world that I'll probably never get a chance to ride on (well other then Laguna). Unfortunately, if you've read _any_ other book or done any basic training, you probably won't learn anything particularly new or applicable to your riding on the street or the track. But if this is your first book on the subject, then nothing wrong with choosing this one to get your feet wet.The good about the book is as you've heard from all the other reviews are the photos. They really are as great as everyone else is saying. And if you consider yourself a big fan of Bayliss or just want to hear more about how he liked his bike setup, then you'll probably learn a few bits of trivia that will interest you. But if you already know about you should do things like pick reference points, not just grab a bunch of front brake and use body position take away lean angle, then you probably won't learn anything new (or advanced).

I have all the obvious riding books (code, parks, ienatsch, etc), which I really like, and this is a very welcome addition to the library. I would read the other books first as they provide the foundation. Then troy adds a lot of colour and nuance that really set some light bulbs off for me at least. My riding style at the track, and lap times, both improved! Loved the book

down to earth practice advice...if you're thinking about racing at the club level a good book to use as a benchmark as to your preperations

Awesome book!

Some great insights into a genuine champion and his winning techniques. Something for all levels of riders and fans alike. Highly recommended.

One of the best books i have read

great read, clearly written, lots of good tips

When the widow of a friend (Terry McCaleb) calls Bosch to investigate her late husband's mysterious death, he is there.Robert Backus: former FBI Behavioral Science, former mentor, former Poet. Is he back? All signs point in that direction, and Agent Rachel Walling is called out of exile in the badlands of North Dakota...but she is not given any power to actually investigate what appears to be his work.Meanwhile, during the investigation of the death of McCaleb, Harry comes across cryptic noted and pictures of McCaleb's family without their knowledge. Was McCaleb being targeted? By who? Why? One of the pictures is taken in Nevada of a road sign, ZZyzx. Bosch decides to go and see what it leads to.Walling and Bosch, both pretty much outsiders, he is former LAPD, retired, and she is not in good standing, They are paired because Agent Walling is already there and he has information. Are the two cases a combination of the work of one madman, or was this all a coincidence. Bosch doesn't believe in coincidences. There are hints as to whom is doing the killing, but why, and how were they lured to their excruciating deaths. Then, Harry's ex wife is keeping a secret. He knows she is and this is one of those mysteries he must solve. However, when he discovers what this life changing secret is, he could never have imagined what it turned out to be.The book was interesting how the crimes were solved, they were led to certain places that apparently they were led to intentionally. They were being played.

Harry Bosch has retired from the LAPD and is trying to drum up business for his new career as a private investigator. He lands a case, probably the last one he wants, to investigate the death of good friend Terry McCaleb who was an FBI agent before his own retirement. In the course of his investigation Harry stumbles on a huge excavation taking place off Zzyzx Road, a nowhere junction along I-15 between LA and Las Vegas. (I’ve seen it several times and it always provoked a laugh.) Turns out the excavators are FBI folks and they are finding a number of bodies whose deaths point to a nemesis called The Poet. One of the FBI agents at the “big dig” is Rachel Walling, an old friend of Bosch who’s been brought down from her office in South Dakota to help. She’s been warned about taking too aggressive a role in this investigation but she does have a good reason to participate fully; The Poet is a psycho named Backus who was Rachel’s FBI mentor many years before. Bosch is not welcomed by the FBI; they don’t want any help from a retired LA police officer, thank-you-very-much. But Bosch doesn’t care about that because he has his own case to worry about. And since he’s in the Las Vegas vicinity, it’s a great opportunity to get over to “Sin City” and see his daughter, Maddie, who lives there with her mother, Eleanor. Backus is also the master of many disguises and is watching everyone closely. As you might suspect, “outsiders” Bosch and Walling get together (in several ways) to hunt and find Backus in a tension-filled ending.

The Harry Bosch series is the best crime series I've ever read and, for my money, this is one of the very best in the series (it's close between this one, Echo Park, and The Concrete Blonde). Read Connelly's earlier novel, The Poet, before reading this. Although Bosch isn't in The Poet, there are important connections between that book and this one, and you'll enjoy this all the more with that background. And The Poet is a great book in its own right. If you've enjoyed Michael Connelly before you'll like this one, too. If you've never read him, get started and welcome to the party.

This is a very good writer and a very smart one. I have read many of his books, all these people that move around and in LA. Bosch, Mike Haller, the journalist , Kiz, Rachel Walling , etc , they all form a group of interesting people, different characters, all working crimes, intricate intrigues, quite atmospheric, .....simply good entertaining writing.

Connelly and Harry Bosch are always a good read and The Narrows is certainly no exception. Having been a cop for 33 years in an LA County city so much of what Connelly writes is so right on target regarding police work, victims and the criminal justice system. Connelly gets it about the FBI's and their bureaucratic, highminded ways that get in the way of good street level investigative police work. While The Narrows is a little weak in capturing my complete attention, I could put this one down, it is a wonderful read.

The crossover books that cover multiple main characters frequently tend to have to much ground to cover on all sides to satisfy the readers of each series. This generally means that the main story itself must be simpler, as was the case with this one whee the villain was revealed very early on. Also, the attempted twist at the end was not really very well conceived, as it essentially meant that it truly was a major coincidence that Bosch became heavily involved in the case at all. While potentially heavily ironic for those familiar with that character, it was also quite unbelievable. However, even with those shortcomings, this was still a very good read. The pacing was generally good and the use of multiple settings to develop the story also worked well.

The author is an entertaining story teller, peppering the chapters with recipes for classical dishes that reflect Basque history, from the famous cod whose sauce arises from the cod itself to the elusive baby eels. There's a bit of recycling here, as others mentioned, from earlier works like 'Cod' but that's inevitable given the subject matter, The daunting overview of the sweep of Basque history, over 3000 years that is known, is accomplished with great competency. Little known tidbits about this enigmatic people are nicely expounded upon, such the fact that the Basques likely and regularly crossed the North Atlantic in pursuit of cod and whales before Columbus' fateful journey and that they were pioneers of iron manufactory at the birth of the industrial age. The problem is that the work often comes across as an apologia for some of the darker elements of recent Basque history. The author can't seem to help himself but blend in bits of his own politics (decidedly Left) giving a pass to 'enlightened' leftist revolutionary & radical trends in the Basque nationalist movement and uses labels of 'Right' and 'Left' in the 21st century context for movements and personages of the 19th and early 20th conflating matters that unfortunately mislead. Discussions of the Civil War and its aftermath are unavoidable and it's here where the author unfortunately lets his bias through the most. Mr Kurland all too often becomes an apologist for pretty questionable actions by ETA (who adopted the violence of the 'anti-colonialist' Left), straying into polemics instead of conveying a balanced discussion of a complex struggle. At one strange point, a discussion of past events breaks into the present for a tutorial about what Basques actually want, and that doesn't seem include independence. Franco is accurately portrayed as the authoritarian brute that he was, foisted into power by the Nazis, but also someone not as numbingly dumb as Kurland would have us believe, that he couldn't deftly played both sides against the middle well into the depths of the Cold War and two generations after Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini were rotting in their respective graves. The price, of course, was retarding Spain's cultural and economic development through most of the 20th century, something that cannot be disputed. The author glosses over the true nature of the Republican side, who notwithstanding their name, rapidly devolved into Useful Idiots for Stalin. He fails to recognize that they were as much stooges for this monster as Franquistas were for Hitler, perpetrating crimes as heinous as the Fascists during their brief reign. There was a damned good reason entrepreneurial, capitalist Basques did not simply throw in their lot with a faction that became dominated by dogmatic Marxists, but instead kept them at arm's length even after the Guernica/Gernika slaughter. Despite the book's shortcomings, much can be gleaned here about a nation whose saga begins before recorded history and ought to inspire curious readers to delve deeper into their story.

I really enjoyed this book, as a way to learn about my heritage on my father's side of the family. Learning about the history of the Basque people, the reasons for the difference in culture between French Basques and Spanish Basque was very interesting. It really was the introduction I've been missing to the culture.I'm not 100% sure about the historical accuracy of some of the information in the book, but I felt that the author let us know when he was offering a possibility rather than fact. All in all, I was very happy for the attempt at offering as much information as possible, and adding grains of salt when they were required.

This is a lengthy and detailed accounting of Basque history, language, culinary arts and culture. I read it over time for many reasons, one of which it can be so detailed as to become tedious. Having said that, I learned a lot about the basque way of viewing the world and basque trials and tribulations of fitting into a Spanish/French culture yet not conforming to either. I would recommend it for those interested in history.

About half this book comes easily up to the high and entertaining standard of Mark Kurlansky's work. But a great deal of the modern era gets bogged down in petty details of horrible deeds. Up to the Carlist wars the tale flows smoothly with loads of interesting tid bits. This is a fascinating nation, one of the nations of the world which has remained a nation without being able to form a country.I just think he got bogged down in the repression imposed by Spain on Basqueland, the execution, and arrests, the shootings, murders and bombings. These are all important parts of the Basque history but the history goes back 2,000 years and more. But I am not discouraged. This is Kurlansky book number three for me. Going to order out his book on the Caribbean next.

My daughter has recently married into a Basque family, so we have traveled to Gipuzkoa several times and will to be there again. I read this book while in the small village of Bidegoain, where the wedding was held, and enjoyed it immensely. I have visited French Basque country, so his description of the differences on each side of the border was spot on.Yes, the author is deeply sympathetic to the Basques. It is true that atrocities were committed on both sides, but I agree with the author's view of the disproportion between the Basque vs the national government's (France & Spain) actions. I appreciate the more intimate and personal view than just a dry recitation of the facts. This is a must read for anyone who spends time in Basque country, and worthwhile for everyone else

I enjoyed Kurlansky's other books, but this one is a bit of a letdown. Kurlansky clearly knows his stuff, but he's also really, REALLY enamored with the Basque people. There's nothing wrong with liking your subjects, but he spends most of the book as a cheerleader for the Basque and tries to tie them to every world event or trend ever. And while I'll agree with him that the Basque did influence many things, by trying to tie them into literally every global trend for the last 1500 years, the book comes off less as an informative history of the Basque, and more as a puff piece.

This is a bit dry, but it presents a very interesting version of the history of the Basques and their international influence in the past. I read it before we visited Basque Country and mentioned it to one of our guides, who commented that she liked it too and the author wasn't even Basque. A lot of what you read about Basques makes them out to be terrorists and this book puts an altogether different, more positive spin on it.

thorough coverage of the Basques through history. Filled in a lot of blanks for me. BUT...so much war. Amazing to me that they were not wiped out. Hope they prevail and are able to have their 'own' country permanently! Well written and researched. Nice to have personal stores now and then too.
